Week 11 Day 2 - Wednesday, Nov 6 - Homework

1. Begin Concept Process for Project 3. Brainstorm 5 journey thematic concepts in sketchbook due next class Monday, Nov 11 8:30am.

Project 3: The Journey: Digital Alphabet Book

Description:
Create a digital book that communicates the story of “a journey” through the 26 letters of the English alphabet. “The Journey” can be interpreted literally (as an act of travel) or metaphorically (journey of the mind, enlightenment, coming of age). Overall your visual translation of the alphabet should cohesively communicate a narrative regarding a specific journey.

Objective:
+ To gain experience with grid based layout design in InDesign.
+ To reinforce design principles that support visual choices in creative problem solving solutions.
+ To explore effective ways to tell a specific story through use of both imagery and type.

Specifications:
Size: Letter sized paper document (8.5" x 11"). Must include cover page and final page with all 26 alphabet components. 9 page minimum, 15 page maximum (includes cover and final alphabet layout page). Final deliverable must be a PDF file.

Media: Photographs, photomontage, illustrations, mixed media, etc. The appropriate use of Photoshop and Illustrator is expected. The assembly of your book layout must be done using InDesign. Aside from type used for alphabet, limited use of additional text is allowed. Keep in mind, you are not creating a typeface, but rather finding ways to use image and type effectively as a means for telling a rich story.

Timeline + Deadlines:
Conceptual Brainstorming: Brainstorm 5 journey thematic concepts in sketchbook due Monday, Nov 11 8:30am.

Project 3 Midpoint Group Crit: Rough layout of The Journey: Alphabet book due as PDF on Monday, Dec 2, 8:30am.

Project 3 Final Critique: Digital Book and all process work due Wednesday, Dec 11, 8:30am. Thursday, Dec 19, 7:30-9:30am

Technical Skill—30%
Aesthetics & Communication—50%
