Week 1 Day 2 - Wednesday, Aug 28 - Homework

1. Begin conceptual brainstorming process for Project 1.
  • Think about what you want to use for your textual content (your name? a description of yourself? phrases about your personality, physical characteristics, interests, hobbies, etc.)
  • In your sketchbook, write out the letters, words, phrases that you intend to use in your self portrait.
  • Begin to examine the formal structure of letters (lowercase vs uppercase), numbers, and punctuation (for example !$*^<>,./?"'\|}{[]~`@# ). Look for formal/spatial relationships between your intended text content.
  • Photograph yourself at different angles (portrait, profile, close up, medium shot [head to shoulders], wide shot [head to toe]), and be sure to consider various facial expressions and your body language (are you smiling, frowning, screaming looking at the camera, not looking in the camera, what are you doing [dancing, sleeping, laughing, etc]). Take a lot of images in the beginning to ensure you have a variety of possibilities to choose from.

Mind map, text content sketches and at least 5 photographs (saved digitally as JPG) of yourself are due for review Wednesday, Sept 4, 8:30am
